Potable Water Systems on Ships

Cleaning and Disinfection of potable water systems on ships, supply vessels and oil rigs with the CARELA® system

The substances that are naturally contained in potable water deposit on all surfaces in contact with water and develop into biofilms and incrustations. These deposits provide an ideal environment for the proliferation of bacteria – including pathogens such as Legionella and
Pseudomonas – and can have a negative effect on water taste and odour as well as on human health.

Removing all deposits and effective disinfection

The CARELA® system of cleaning and disinfection removes all kinds of deposits (biofilms, iron, manganese, limescale) from potable water installations while achieving a simultaneous 100% effective disinfection against all waterborne bacteria.

The cleaning and disinfecting products

CARELA® BIO-PLUS and CARELA® BIO-DES
have been tested and approved by various institutes of hygiene, health and environmental authorities like DWI, DWQR, DVGW and DTC.

The CARELA(R) System / Conventional Cleaning

No damage to the surfaces due to products that are adapted to the surface materials and low pressure spray application
Easy and safe handling
No development of critical by-products
Rinsing water can be easily discharged
No scaffolding required
Fast and time-saving application procedure

High pressure water jetting damages the surfaces
Application of chlorine bears a high health and safety risk
Development of chlorinated hydrocarbons, chloramines, chlorophenols
Difficult neutralization of the waste water
Scaffolding required
Time and water consuming application procedure

Risks in the fresh water suplly on ships
RISK 1
Contaminated water can be delivered from land-based service reservoirs to dockside holding tanks.

RISK 2
Water can be stagnating in dockside holding tanks for long periods of time.
The chlorine residual of the water often depletes to zero.

RISK 3
Stagnant water in transport pipelines promotes bacterial proliferation.

RISK 4
Flexible supply hoses are left with stagnant water remaining inside.

RISK 5
Potable water tanks on board the supply vessels are not cleaned and disinfected regularly.

RISK 6
Flexible supply hoses are left with stagnant water remaining inside.

RISK 7
End user is susceptible to any prior risks.
Contaminants steadily accumulate in tanks and down-services.
Incrustations and biofilms develop.
Possible contamination by human contact during maintenance and/or inspection
Deposits foul filters and dim U.V. treatment
